Afternoon arrival and checking into accommodation. Welcome dinner.
Day 2 Sat 31 Jan 2026Isotope theory and instrumentation
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
We will cover the basics of stable isotope theory, equations and instruments. Project group formation.
Day 3 Sun 1 Feb 2026Plant carbon and oxygen isotopes
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
We will discuss the basics for stable isotopes of carbon and oxygen in plant tissues as influenced by photosynthetic pathway, physiology, environment and plant water. Project group work.
Day 4 Mon 2 Feb 2026N, C, O, H isotopes in plants, microbes, water and ecosystems. Calculations, standards and QC.
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
We will discuss isotopes and the water cycle, as well as nitrogen, oxygen and carbon isotopes in plant, microbe and soil interactions. Calculations workshop and importance and theory about isotope standards and quality control. Project group work.
Day 5 Tue 3 Feb 2026Ecosystem isotopes and isoscapes; fieldtrip.
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden; WSU Hawkesbury campus.
Ecosystem N isotopes, isoscapes, isotopes as climate proxies. Fieldtrip to Hawkesbury EucFACE and WholeTree chambers.
Day 6 Wed 4 Feb 2026Food webs, isotopes in agriculture and archaeology.
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
C, N, O, H isotopes and Sr isotopes in diet and archaeology. Project group work.
Day 7 Thu 5 Feb 2026Isotopes in teeth, carbonates, radioisotopes.
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
Project group work and finalising presentations.
Day 8 Fri 6 Feb 2026SIBS 2026 symposium and Departure.
Location: Centre for Carbon, Water and Food in Camden
Participant groups will present their project data and discussion. Participant certificates and T-shirts. Departure after lunch.
